Dr. Udita Chatterjee at the clinic
New Light has been providing comprehensive healthcare to the entire sex workers community for the past few years. Healthcare support is also extended to the community immediate but outside the red light district. The New light Clinic is operational five days of the week with visits by a general practitioner, a pediatrician and a gynecologist. Six health workers / peer educators and a full time trained nurse are available to provide emergency medical care to the mothers and the children of the target population round the clock.

All medical treatment expenses for the children registered with the program are sponsored by New Light.

The areas covered by the healthcare services are -

  • post-natal, neonatal care
  • Immunization against vaccine preventable diseases (Primary vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B vaccine)
  • Treatment of burn injuries
  • Critical surgery for young children done in specialized care centers in the city
  • HIV/AIDS care and support
  • Awareness campaign for general health and hygiene condition
  • Dental, ophthalmic and cardiac care for children
  • ENT Care
  • Clinical attention for minor injuries and ailments
